3 Best Surf Breaks In Morocco

There's only two months left to go until we head south for our Wild and Free, surf and yoga adventure in Morocco! We've been traveling to Morocco for years and we love that there are so many surf breaks. You can always find a great wave to ride somewhere along the coast that will suit your ability perfectly.

So here are our top 3 surf breaks in Morocco for intermediate surfers, what boards you should ride on them and even the best type of manoeuvre's each wave is perfect for.

1- Tamri beach break

Tamri is perfect for beginners and it also throws up some really nice shaped walls for intermediate surfers to rip up. It's is a go to spot when the rest of the coast is small or flat, with its long stretch of sand, it's a swell catching magnet. There are no rocks or reef to worry about, so you can really go for it and not worry about those wipe outs.

The best surfboards for this wave vary on your ability. For beginners, I would recommend using a swell board or foamy around the 7 to 8ft mark. This is a safe way to learn and these boards will catch anything coming towards them. If your are an intermediate surfer, We would recommend a nice shortboard with a fairly flat rocker and wide tail. Maybe a swallow tail to keep some speed, we like to use large FCS Am fins , these allow you to create lots of drive and acceleration in beach break conditions.

2 - Banana Point

This has to be the most user friendly surf break in Morocco. A long forgiving sweeping right hander peels for hundreds of yards and finally finishes onto a nice sandy beach. No need to worry about stubbing your toe on a rock.

This place is perfect for practicing your bottom turns and carving top turns. Aim to keep your speed through each turn, increasing it as you accelerate down the line. A perfect point wave for hybrid or fish boards. Try surfing a twin fin board here and you will really feel the benefits of speed down the line. Check out this short clip of Wild and Free's pro surf coach Alan Stokes styling it up, surfing a twin fin at Banana Point.

3 - Anchor Point

Now, I would say Anchor's is an advanced surfers wave at size, but at 2 to 3 feet, it's the perfect reeling right hand point break for intermediates surfers to get to grips with a whole variety of manoeuvre's.

This point offers, when small, easy access from the beach to the north or south. Anchor's is a great down the line wave, which when bigger can throw up a good tube on the inside bowl. Best boards for here would either be a nice drawn out shortboard with a rounded pin, quad or a twin fin. Thrusters work well, but for speed down the line, a quad set up would give you that extra drive. If you want to get super stylish, try hitting the point on a retro twin fin for some super fast high line carves.
