Baden Baden Marriott Hotel Review - Philly Lewis For The Guardian

Updated: May 23

Earlier this November, we were really excited to get a call from The Guardian about an exciting trip to review a Marriott Hotel in Baden Baden, Germany. Who could say no?

After a busy couple of months with Wild & Free, we definitely needed a restorative break to slow down and appreciate all that we had achieved. It was amazing timing and we were so excited to see what Roomers Baden Baden had to offer us. Have a read of Philly's travel piece here.

"From surfing the breaks of Costa Rica to hiking the mountains of Sri Lanka, our travels together have shaped us as a couple, and even inspired the creation of our yoga and surf retreat business Wild & Free. We love what we do, but sometimes it can be hard to switch off. Especially lately – I’ve been glued to a laptop and Alan’s been competing: as three-times British surfing champion, he’s a regular fixture on the surfing competition circuit. A restorative break calls.

As wellbeing locations go, the German spa town of Baden-Baden is hard to beat. Being close to nature is important to us and it certainly ticks that box. Framed by tree-lined mountains and views of the Rhine valley, this traditional Black Forest town is known for its curative thermal waters. Excitingly, we’re bound for the glossy spa hotel of Roomers Baden-Baden, Autograph Collection, which promises a slice of modern luxury."

"As a yoga teacher, I specialise in vinyasa flow; a quick morning session is now as second-nature as brushing my teeth. Alan orders us a room-service breakfast via a handy little tablet in the room. It’s such an indulgence to sit on our bed, dressing gowns on, with fresh croissants, jams, fruit, comb honey, smoothies, granola and fresh coffee.

From our window I can just make out an outline of the Black Forest. Today, we want to get closer to this beautiful region, synonymous with Grimm brothers’ fairy tales. Thirty minutes later, we’re onboard one of Europe’s steepest funicular railways, climbing to the summit of the 668-metre Merkur mountain."
