'Fitness in the great outdoors doesn't get much better than in Cornwall.'

 

'In April, Alan and Philly launched their own business: Wild & Free, offering surf and yoga workshops and retreats both in Cornwall and abroad. "We thought it would be an easy thing to do - we have the ecpertise and we love doing it," grins Alan. 

"Surf and yoga complement each other. They use the same muscles, and stances are very similar. Yoga relaxes the tension that develops in the shoulders when surfing. In the evening, we practice yin yoga, holding poses for up to five minutes, getting deep into muscles and connective tissues."

 

In August, they held their first free beach workshop in Newquay and a retreat in the luxurious surroundings of The Park in Mawgan Porth. The key is being outside, "It's important. We're stuck inside all the time on our phones, and we don't get out and active all that much," says Philly. "When people are with us, their phones go away," adds Alan. "It's all about being present in the moment. It makes you forget all the other stuff that's going on. We're tapping into that every day - it's like a reset button.'
