Travel Diaries: Baden Baden, Germany At A Glance

In November, we got an very exciting call from The Guardian asking us to visit Baden Baden in Germany and stay in the brand new Roomer's Hotel. Although, a little town in the middle of Germany in winter is not normally an adventure we'd choose to take on, there was no way we we're going to turn this down! So off we went, bags packing to spend a few nights in Baden Baden. We took the opportunity to have a complete wind down.

Baden Baden is a quaint town full of beautiful architecture, yummy cafes and surrounded by the famous trees of the Black Forest. We we're scooped up from the airport and chauffeured straight to our cosy, plush room at Roomer's Baden Baden. We immediately felt completely relaxed (not that we need to be any more chilled) with drinks on arrival, candles flickering and warm fires. Our room was beautiful and we had everything we needed, including dressing gowns! They even had a rooftop pool to watch the sunset in, right next to the bar with world famous individual cocktails.

The afternoon was for more exploring, this time rambling through the forests that lay at the bottom of the mountain. The woods are stunning, it's true wilderness and there was such a crispness in the air. There's plenty of mapped out walks, you can also hire bikes which is definitely a must do. You can find trails here.

Feeling cold and numb, we headed back to the hotel to warm up and make the most of the spa. Which always means a little time for yoga and a loooooong 90 minute massage before the sauna and steam room. It was a wellness break after all! We enjoyed a Sports Massage and Lomi Lomi treatment. The Spa at Roomer's is perfect and has stunning views to the forest and rooftops of Baden Baden.

Our second day in the beautiful town we decided to make the most of luxury hotel life and start with room service. Scrumptious! Then we headed into the town, starting at the parkland alongside the River Oos, admiring the architecture. Finding stunning trees after trees after trees! We visited the Frieder Burda Musuem, the beautifull Trinkhalle and the natural pools at Friedrichsbad baths. Warning! It's traditional to bath naked there, so there are unisex days you can go and days for only men or women. We tried the famous cakes at Cafe Konig, have a look on Conde Nast's eating guide. We walked for hours, discovering new places until eventually heading back to the hotel, sad to leave on our flight the next day.
